2 & 3 Year Old Preschool Group

Our emphasis is on encouraging language development and the further development of social skills through increasing opportunities for physical and creative play. We believe learning and positive development happens naturally through child initiated play at this stage. We provide a range of enriching creative activities to promote social, linguistic and cognitive development for our 2year olds. As the children progress, we fully introduce the other areas of the EYFS. This is through short planned adult led activities and continuous provision within our safe and structured environment. All children develop self esteem, understanding and the ability to become confident learners.

4-Year Old Transitional Group
Our Transitional Group of children are those children who will be starting school in September.
This group of children are all about becoming "School Ready." We focus on securing skills within Physical Development, strengthening hand and finger muscles to ensure that children can use the correct pencil grip when drawing. We also focus on developing and securing early Maths and Literacy skills. Maths skills will include counting and recognising numbers to 5, then 10. Counting objects and knowing when a group of objects has more, less or the same quantity. Literacy skills include securing book handling skills, re-telling familiar stories, recognising simple rhyming words and beginning to learn the sounds that letters make, which we call "Phonics."

PHONICS
We begin by learning songs, rhymes and actions for each letter of the alphabet through a program called "Jolly Phonics."
We then develop this as the year goes on and begin an additional program alongside Jolly Phonics, called "Read, Write Inc." This program focuses more on the reading and writing of individual letters and sounds.
